Here’s how it works:
First create an “Object Set” – This can be any juggling object or number you would like. A “3-Ball” object set is included as a sample. You can save it so you can add your own "3-Ball" routines, or you can delete it if you want. Then add whatever “Object Set” you want – “Diabolo”, “3”, “4” or “5-Balls”, “Cigar Boxes”, etc…
- Then create a “Routine” to include in that set.
-
Save your new “Routine” with a unique name that
characterises the routine. It can be your “Performance” routine, or your “Low
Ceiling” routine, whatever has meaning to you.
-
Once you have the name of your routine, fill in your “Routine” with “Elements”. A “Routine”
can contain up to a maximum of 20 “Elements” – these elements are whatever you
call your juggling tricks, and save each “Element” in your “Routine”.
-
REMEMBER – Each “Routine” can contain a maximum
of 20 “Elements”, but you can have as many routines as you want.
-
Once you have at least two routines saved in
your “Object Set”, you can then use the “Create Random Routine” button to
generate a new routine that has been randomly selected from the two previous
routines.
The possibilities that can be generated are always equal to “the number
of routines to the power of the number of elements”. Like the children’s books
you see where you have all the farm animals with their bodies divided into
three sections; Head, Torso and Feet. A child creates funny combinations by
flipping the pages and can end up with an animal that has a Duck’s Head, a
Pig’s Torso and a Horse’s feet. The ECG works just like that.
For example; two routines, each containing three elements, can generate
eight different combinations (2x2x2=8).
Two routines each with 10 elements (210) can generate 1024
The advantage of this system is that by generating random routines a
juggler can improve his ability by working on the transitions between elements
that he may not have thought of, or tried, previously. Another advantage is
that a juggler does not need a large number of elements in order to create a
large number of transitions to work on.
The ECG is also not limited to jugglers, any circus performing using a
trick-based vocabulary can benefit from the process. Chinese Pole has proven
particularly adapted to The ECG.
People have also used it to generate weekly menus and exercise regimes.
